At Transdirect, we’re conscious of the impact our business model has on the environment. In 2019, we made the decision to go 100% Carbon Neutral to minimise our carbon footprint and help fund environmental projects around the world.

We’re coming close to our first trip around the sun as a carbon neutral business – and the results have been heartwarming.

We want to share the good news, so in this article, we’ve highlighted some of the glowing statistics provided to us by the Carbon Reduction Institute, our partner in carbon offsetting.

Over the past several months, we’ve delivered 20 million kilograms of parcels carbon neutrally

We’ve made a big difference since making the decision to offset our carbon emissions. For those who don’t know, a carbon offset is generated from activities that prevent, reduce or remove carbon emissions from being released into the atmosphere.

This compensates for emissions occurring somewhere else in the world.

Over the past several months, we’ve delivered 20 million kilograms of parcels 100% carbon neutrally, offsetting the equivalent of:

  • 4,977,300 kilograms of coal being burned
  • 4,847,677.21 litres of petrol
  • 44,885,900.06 kilometres on the road.

Our effort has almost offset the carbon emissions of a small country and in the grand scheme of things, every little bit counts.

Why are these numbers so important?

In a previous article, we explored the impact of carbon emissions on the natural environment and how swapping to a carbon neutral freight company like Transdirect can make a difference.

We noted the earth’s temperature has increased 0.9 degrees over the last thirty years due to increasing carbon emissions. While it doesn’t sound like a lot, the climbing temperature has caused the world’s sea levels to rise around 20 centimetres since 1900.

In an unexpected turn of events, the COVID-19 pandemic and worldwide restrictions could result in a 5% decrease in carbon emissions in 2020 – a whopping 2.6 billion tonnes of carbon!

While we can’t turn back the clock and stop carbon emissions from damaging the earth, we can minimise our carbon footprint and create a better world for future generations.

We can slow the rising temperatures. We can reduce the risk of human illness linked to air pollution and carbon emissions – an absolute essential. Research has shown that reducing carbon emissions could help prevent 300,000 to 700,000 premature deaths per annum before 2030, or 800,000 to 1.8 million deaths before 2050.

We want our children to grow up safe and healthy.

We want our children to have a liveable world!

By choosing Transdirect, you’re choosing a freight company who actively cares about the environment

We have a genuine concern for environmental change – and if that means we have to pave the way for industry change, we’d be glad to take the lead.
